Recently, over lunch, Raf and I were having a flash back to yesteryear. We chatted about how we used to play this game or that game on the PC (I know, I didn’t always use a Mac). Reminiscing about such times, inevitably brings me back to my favourite game of that era: Day of the Tentacle. It’s a point-and-click adventure game, which is a genre that doesn’t really exist anymore.

To my surprise, I’ve found out that there are many emulators that allow you to play the game on multiple platforms. I can even use the PC CD on the Mac and play it.

I’ve now downloaded the emulator and now I have to find the CD-ROM.

Update: I found the game shortly after I posted this, and wow does it ever work great. I also found Sam & Max and that so far works flawlessly. I predict that I’ll be spending countless hours playing these in the near future.

Animal Crossing Movie

As most of you know, I’m a Nintendo Fanboy. And as a fanboy, one of my favourite games is Animal Crossing: Wild World for the DS. It’s also one of Lina’s favourites. Sometime last year (I think), it was made into a kids ~~move~~ movie (thanks Gils for the usual spell check) that came out only in Japan and I highly doubt that it’ll be out anywhere else. But, some other Animal Crossing fan has subbed it in English and put it up on Youtube.

Most people don’t know or don’t care about this game, but this is mainly for Lina to enjoy. Hope you enjoy it Lina.

Wii Knock-off

We should really give credit where credit is due, and give props to China. They are not shamed to ride the wave of someone else’s success and “reverse engineer” a product. I wonder what the games will be like. Check out Engadgets article here.

Manhunt 2

The big news on the net yesterday was the ESRB rating of Manhunt 2 for the Wii–Adults only. The premise of ths game, as the title suggests, is to huntdown people and kill them using various methods and weapons.

The problemis that many major video game vendors (eg. EB games) won’t even carry AO rated games. None of the console manufacturers will even publish this highly controversial title. To make matters worse, several countries have already placed a ban on the title.

The only viable market for AO rated games is the PC side. This news is really unfortunate for Nintendo as they are hoping to have more Mature rated titles on the Wii to shed the Kiddie image that they have. Of course this “negative” publicity could actually help the game sell if Rockstar can go back, tone it down a notch and have it re-rated as Mature. They get the free publicity and the curios will buy the game to see what the whole thing is about.

This is a game that you may want to rent before you buy (if it gets a mature rating and makes it to market) because of the “over-the-top” violence that it features.
