The big news on the net yesterday was the ESRB rating of Manhunt 2 for the Wii–Adults only. The premise of ths game, as the title suggests, is to huntdown people and kill them using various methods and weapons.
The problemis that many major video game vendors (eg. EB games) won’t even carry AO rated games. None of the console manufacturers will even publish this highly controversial title. To make matters worse, several countries have already placed a ban on the title.
The only viable market for AO rated games is the PC side. This news is really unfortunate for Nintendo as they are hoping to have more Mature rated titles on the Wii to shed the Kiddie image that they have. Of course this “negative” publicity could actually help the game sell if Rockstar can go back, tone it down a notch and have it re-rated as Mature. They get the free publicity and the curios will buy the game to see what the whole thing is about.
This is a game that you may want to rent before you buy (if it gets a mature rating and makes it to market) because of the “over-the-top” violence that it features.
