Canadian Rockies Trip

Lina and I are on a tour of the Canadian Rockies. It’s a 4 day/3 night tour, so the schedule is kinda rushed. This is end of day 2 and I’m writing this post on my Nintendo DS (which is hella slow), so I can’t write too much.

Day 1 was pretty much just driving, washroom break, eating then back to driving and repeat. Day 2 was an early start from Mary`s Hotel in Golden, BC–especially considering we are one hour ahead from Vancouver time. Boy was it worth the early start. Emerald lake was absolutely beautiful! The temperature there in the morning was only about 40°F (on a day I decided to wear shorts), which made the air crisp and cool. That, of course, added extra brilliance to the green shimmer of the lake.
On the bus and off to Lake Louise we went,

Our first activity of the day was the Gondola ride up the ski resort for a view of the lake and surrounding mountains. Again, as I was in my shorts, I was quite cold. Needless to say, the view was fantastic. We spent about an hour up there, downloaded after that and had lunch at the bottom.

From there, we were whisked away to Lake Louise and encouraged to visit Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. I understand know what people mean when they say that we live in a beautiful country and that the Rockies are a must see. Everything, from the lake to the glaciers to hotel is picture-esque. We took many photos there, headed to Banff for dinner and light shopping and ended up in Calgary.
And now it’s time to sleep for another early day awaits.

Edit: Between Emerald Lake and Lake Louise Gondola Ride on day 2 we also visited the Natural Landbridge

Long Weekend in Victoria

Tyson the Pizza Maker

Lina and I are spending the long weekend with her mother and nephew in Victoria. So far we’ve been having a lot of fun. We’ve made a pizza, toured Chinatown, played some golf at the driving range and went to UVic to see some “human eating” bunnies (Tyson asked if they were going to eat him).

Stung

Yesterday, while I was enjoying the nice weather and BBQ at Lina’s parents place, I was attacked. With food in hand, I took a seat on a stool while making faces at her nephew. I lean back…and wham! I got hit. I had a moment to think, “wow that hurt. What was that? Did I get stung?” Then it started to “burn” in the lower back–really bad. I looked around and sure enough, on the ground, the little sucker was crawling with the last of his life. I took satisfaction in the fact the it cost him more than it hurt me.

Fortunately, the pain subsided in a couple of hours but I’m still reminded of it every time that I lean back in a chair.

Dings On My New Car!!!!!!

So I’ve had my new Honda Fit since the end of February, but I already have 2 dings on my car. The first ding I received in the first 2 weeks of owning the car. I was pretty pissed off when I found it. The stupid ding is just under the rear quarter window on the driver side. Naturally, I walk past it every time I get into my car. Each and every time I am still saddened by the little sucker.

Now imagine my shock and anger when I found a new ding washing my car today!!!! I was cleaning my rear bumper when I noticed. I guess that it wouldn’t be that noticeable if it was just a little bolt mark from the license plate holder, but it’s not. It’s a rough and chipped. The fabric from my washcloth was getting caught on it and that’s how I noticed.

Why me? I even try to avoid the areas in a parking lot with high traffic and lots of cars. Excuse me while I cry. I wonder how much it’ll cost to have that part of my bumper painted.

Woe is me…

Harmony 670

I have my Remote in my little hands and I have to tell you that it is pretty sweet! Set-up is a little time consuming but well worth it. It relatively easy for people who are not tech-shy to set up. The set-up wizard is point and click where the hardest part is trying to find the model numbers of all your devices.

I did have to do some tweaking–some functional and some just personal preferance. I had to lengthen the warm-up time of the TV before it can accept any commands (changing video inputs for example). And I reconfigured some buttons to be more intuitive for me.

The plethora of devices it can control and the finesse in which it does it, is absolutely amazing. The one touch buttons, like “Watch Movie” makes fiddling around with 3 remotes unnecessary. It even controls the Toshiba VCR/DVD controls without any problems.

This remote is one of those devices that, once you have it, you can’t go back. Thanks Lina.

PS: Are you sure you don’t want one Mr. GG?

Perma-cold II: Revenge of the cold

After fighting many battles with the Perma-cold, I thought that I was finally making headway. I was feeling better every day and thought that the enemy has finally been conquered. Friday morning wasn’t bad and things were looking bright. Lured into a false sense of security, my immune system became over confident and left a security gap. They re-grouped and attacked my head. With the afternoon quickly turning into evening my head must have swelled into giant proportions—or so it felt—on Saturday. I only had to listen to and feel the major pounding to check what my heart rate was that night. My counter attack: sleep.

I will not let it get the best of me. Hopefully this story does not become a trilogy.

Logitech Harmony Remote

As evidenced by the hoards and hoards of people and a parking lot packed with cars to the brim, people like to shop at Costco. Why not? It’s hard to find a better deal than them especially for food. My girlfriend (Lina) and I are part of that group. To be honest though, what I really like is having lunch there. I love grabbing a hotdog & drink and walking around to see what’s new in store.

Armed with said hotdog and drink in hand, the first area that I walk through—actually, it’s more like “forced to” because it’s smacks you in the face as you walk in the door—is the electronic section. Not only do I salivate over the food that they have there but also, the Harmony remote. It’s a $200 remote that will pretty much controls anything. You set up and download your remote setting from their website so it is almost future proof.

Seriously though, $200 for a remote is really hard to swallow. I walk by every time in hopes that the price has dropped. Alas, that has not yet occurred. As we push our cart back to the car, I always mention that we “forgot to buy the remote.” Maybe she was tired of hearing that phrase or maybe she was tired of wiping the drool off my chin as I stared at it, but more likely it’s because she is a really wonderful person that she has surprised me with a remote as a gift. How awesome is she? It’s not the same model but she got a heck of a deal from Dell. She always gets me very thoughtful gifts, especially when it comes to gadgets.

I can’t wait until this weekend when I get to try it out.
